Filo Hua Hum
Filo Hua Hum Lodge is located on the Estancia Tres Lagos an hour drive from the town of San Martin. This estancia of 15,000 acres is owned by the Feranadez- Besteched family, direct descendants of the original settlers to this valley. The estancia is a private inholding situated in a beautiful valley along the Andes and within the Lanin National Park. Here flows the Rio Filohuahum. The valley is reminiscent of a Montana landscape from the 1940’s, and the estancia remains a working cattle operation.
The comfortable and homey lodge is operated by the immediate family, thus letting guests enjoy authentic Argentine food and hospitality.
The Filo Hua Hum River is a tributary to the Caleufu River. It flows for approximately 7 miles between the Lago Nuevo and Lago Filohuahum, two of the three lakes that give the estancia its’ name. It is a prefect freestone river and offers good dry fly fishing. This river holds fish that average 16-20" or more and they can reach up to 8 pounds in weight. The predominant species is brown trout. Early and late season are the best times to fish this river as the fish are migratory and move between the lakes. They are found in the river feeding in early season when the water is high and later in the season in March and April coming into spawn. The most productive fishing is sight fishing on the river. It is a place to stalk and catch several good-sized fish a day in a gorgeous setting. The privacy and remoteness of the location ensures little angling pressure. The lake fishing is also a fun option and December and January can be prime times for dragonfly presentations. Non-anglers can enjoy the stunning vistas with horse rides, hiking or just relaxing in this grand Patagonia setting. Along with the great beauty, warm ambiance, and varied activities “Filo” is an all- round winner!!
