Tres Rios Lodge & Surroundings
Tres Ríos Casa de Campo is located just 45 minutes from the town of San Martin. In this isolated yet close location to town, the visitor can enjoy expansive views, star-lit night skies, and great fishing options. This setting captures the essence of the Patagonia steppe. The small lodge is situated close to the confluence of the Rio Chimehuin and the Rio Alumine and Collon Cura. Here are some of the best fishing waters in the Northern region of Patagonia.
A stay at Tres Rios offers the angler the opportunity to walk wade and float fish for rainbow and brown trout. The fishing can be varied from matching the hatch, fishing attractors, or streamer fishing in search of explosive takes for very healthy fish. The lower Chimehuin River is a an attractive fishery that branches off and provides habitat for big fish in small water, and especially browns that are always willing to take a big attractor in pocket water. It also holds healthy rainbows feeding in the seams of the riffles.
Fishing is good throughout the Fishing season from December through April. A favored time is also in the Patagonia Fall into the end of April. This time frame produces some great match the hatch opportunities to angle for fish that are actively feeding. The days are shorter and can be cooler and those conditions contribute to the prolific hatches on the various waters that are easily accessible from the lodge base. The property also has two spring creeks that are fun options for fishing attractors for big browns. A real plus to this location is that many of the fishable waters are gin clear and much of the fishing can be sight fishing to cruising fish. Full day outings and float trips are offered, and “split days” that allow a comfortable return to the lodge for a nice lunch and a siesta, then fish the late afternoon into evening.
The Tres Rios Lodge is lovely, quiet, low key and tastefully appointed. The cuisine is excellent with fresh and local foods prepared daily. The wine selection is first rate. Good weather days provide occasions for outdoor dining and Argentine asados. Visits to the town of San Martin can be easily arranged for shopping or touring. The lodge can accommodate 8 anglers and the atmosphere and ambiance are so welcoming. This lodge is owned and operated by Traful River Outfitters owner, Lucas Rodriquez.
